The Porter Neuroscience Research Center is a research facility located along the western edge of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Campus in Bethesda, Maryland.
To access the building, all visitors must go through security check at the NIH Gateway Center located adjacent to the Medical Center Metro Station before entering the NIH campus. Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the meeting to allow time to get through the security checkpoints at the visitor entrances on campus. Visitors will be required to show one (1) form of identification (a government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license, passport, or green card) and to state the purpose of their visit.

Driving Directions to NIH Campus
From I-495 (Capital Beltway) in Northern Virginia or Maryland
- Take I-495 (Capital Beltway) westbound (Outer Loop) or northbound (Inner Loop).
- Take Exit 36 to Old Georgetown Road, south.
- Turn left onto West Cedar Lane.
- Yield right onto Rockville Pike.
- Follow signs to the main visitor’s entrance on the right.
Parking at NIH Campus
Short-term, metered parking and long-term, attendant-controlled parking is available to visitors for $2 per hour for the first three hours, or $12 per day.
Visitor parking is extremely difficult to find at NIH, so if possible, take public transportation. There is a Metro station on the NIH campus with shuttle bus service to the main buildings.

Campus Shuttle Service
The NIH Campus Shuttle is free of charge and runs daily, both on and around campus to Building 35a.
Rideshare and taxi services are available and may enter campus via the Gateway Center Vehicle Inspection Center.

Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI) is approximately a 42 minute drive. The average cost of a one-way taxicab ride is $75.00.
